4-H Cares About Community
According to a recent USDA report 179,000 households in Massachusetts are struggling to put food on the table. Hunger is on the rise in the Commonwealth and the Project Bread Status Report on Hunger in Massachusetts reports that the prevalence of hunger in low-income communities here has reached an all time high. With winter approaching many families will need to choose between heat and food.
In response to this documented need, Massachusetts 4-H conducted a statewide food drive to benefit food pantries and shelters across the state. A total of 11,764 pounds of food and $1165.55 in cash was collected and distributed to the food pantries and homeless shelters listed below:
Cape Cod Hunger Network
Lousion House, Adams
Our Friends Place, Pittsfield
Construct, Great Barrington
St. Joseph’s Food Cellar, Attleboro
Greater Boston Food Bank
Haverhill Food Bank
Springfield Open Food Pantry
Palmer Food Pantry
Center for Self Reliance Food, Greenfield
Bread Alone Soup Kitchen, Amherst
Worcester County Food Bank
Germantown Neighborhood Center Food Pantry, Quincy
South Shore Community Action Food Pantry, Plymouth
Thank you to all of the 4-H clubs in Massachusetts that participated in this effort. Working together, we are making a difference in our communities!
